Cincinnati sculptor Doug White salvages wood from demolished buildings, storm-damaged trees, or wood left over from timbering operations. To start a sculpture, he roughs out the shape with power tools, and he finishes the work with hand gouges. Most of his subject matter consists of birds, and Doug’s bird carvings have appeared on many Déjà Vu show posters.

The dark markings occur naturally. Doug has accentuated the wing and tail feathers with short, carved strokes, and the bird is mounted on driftwood. Sculpted of holly, which is a domestic wood.
